Learn About the Tradition of Pysanky: Ukrainian Batik Eggs

Learn About the Tradition of Pysanky: Ukrainian Batik Eggs In-Person

Discover the enchanting world of pysanky with renowned artist Carol Novosel. A pysanky is an intricately decorated Ukranian Easter egg, created using a traditional wax-resist dyeing technique. These beautiful works of art are rich in symbolism and have been an integral part of Ukranian spring traditions for centuries.

Carol Novosel lives in Sharon, and has created tens of thousands of pysanky. Her eggs have been given to then President Clinton, and Alex Trebek featured one of her eggs on an episode of Jeopardy! She will show a variety of her creations and speak about how they are an integral part of spring traditions in her Ukrainian church community. Participants will be able to try a bit of pysanky art themselves.

This project is made possible in part by federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries
