Field Guide to Ticks In-Person

Join us for a comprehensive exploration of local ticks! This event will delve into the various tick species found in Pennsylvania, with a particular focus on the blacklegged tick, the most common tick in our region. We'll cover their habitat, identification tips, and life cycle. We'll also debunk common myths about ticks and shed light on Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnesses. Learn effective prevention strategies and what to do if you encounter a tick. Additionally, gain insights into county and state efforts in tick management.

About the Presenter: The mission of the Mercer County Vector Management Coalition is to protect the public health of residents in the counties of Mercer, Crawford, and Butler by using Integrated Vector Management to reduce the population of disease-carrying mosquitoes. In addition to mosquito monitoring, the Mercer County Vector Management Coalition conducts tick surveillance in tri-county area. The goal of this program is to determine the distribution, prevalence, and expansion of tick populations throughout the Commonwealth.
