A Short History of Folk Music In-Person
A short-history of folk music (people's music!) ," will include singing and commentary from Dr. Doug Morris (West Chester University professor). There are tens of thousands of songs in the "folk" tradition, we will not sing or talk about all of them (hence, "a short history"), cover the years from roughly 1840 to 1940, and will include: field songs, dance songs, freedom songs, railroad songs, protest songs, union songs (e.g., from Joe Hill, and the Industrial Workers of the World, Florence Reese, etc.), Dustbowl songs (Woody Guthrie), etc. Audience participation will be encouraged - singing, insights, questions, dialogue, etc.!
